This one-day workshop introduces participants to the fascinating world of wet collodion photography and teaches them how to create original ferrotypes and ambrotypes in the studio. The technique is one of the so-called positive photographic processes: images are exposed onto an aluminium or glass plate. Our workshop is designed for those who wish to explore the world of historical photography techniques. Following a brief theory session on the technique and necessary chemicals, we will collectively develop an ambrotype. Finally, participants will expose and develop their own plates in the darkroom, taking their finished images home with them.

Part 1: Introduction to the wet collodion technique, presentation of the necessary chemicals, exposure, developing and coating the plate in the darkroom

Part 2: Practical, guided work: each participant exposes and develops their own 4×5-inch plate to take home
