Carlotta Valente (Rome, 1992) is a visual artist whose work investigates photography as object, material, and technology. Through analogue and historical printing processes, she explores the relationship between image, time, and memory. In 2021, she founded Studio Bayard in Rome. Her works have been exhibited and published internationally, most recently in Milan, Vienna, and Verona.

‘My practice moves between fashion and documentary, where instinct and responsibility shape the way I work. I work very intuitively, following feeling and what happens in the moment. At the same time, I’m exploring a more conceptual approach, developing ideas and focusing on art direction. I try to find a balance between the two-staying open and intuitive, while also planning carefully and with intention, so I can tell the story I want to tell. I’m not interested in perfect, or in images that feel empty. I’m looking for something that holds your attention a little longer images with depth, energy, and a sense of real connection. In fashion, I like to push and play with expression; in documentary, I work with care and awareness, knowing how sensitive an image can be. I’m drawn to friction and to moments of shine, to extremes and the links between them, to contradictions and recurring themes. I look for that point where things almost clash, but instead create something honest and alive. It’s in this search for balance between rough and soft, instinct and control, distance and closeness.’
