Irene Steger is an independent artist focusing on analogue photography, Polaroid lifts, and collage. In her work, photographs are not treated as finished images but as raw material for transformation. Through peeling, shifting, and layering, new visual spaces emerge in which fragmentation and process remain visible. The image is not fixed but exists in a state of transition. Irene Steger lives and works in South Tyrol, Italy.
In the project Unfold/verschoben, photographs are further developed – the photo is only the starting point. Through lifting and collage, they are detached from their original form and re-created anew. It is a process of displacement, fragmentation, and repetition.
Kurt Stauder, born in 1962, is a mountain and ski guide and has been deeply engaged in photography since 1975, with a particular focus on the Polaroid medium. Alongside his professional career in the alpine field, he developed a continuous and independent photographic practice that allowed him ample space for experimentation.
At the center of his photographic interest is the direct, often intuitive work with Polaroid as an autonomous image carrier. Stauder uses the specific qualities of the medium—its immediacy, materiality, and unpredictability—as a creative potential. His works often emerge in the interplay between landscape, alpine experience, and photographic reduction.Through his long-standing practice, Stauder combines precise observation of nature with an experimental approach to photography, where process and result hold equal importance.
The photographic series was created in November 2021 during a boat crossing from Venice to Murano.
